I'm taking part in The 24-Hour Challenge to support Samaritans, a charity close to my heart that offers a lineline to people in crisis, 24/7.

This cause matters deeply to me – and I’d be so grateful if you could be part of it.

I have finally completed the 24 hours!!! I will be continuing on the blanket over the next 2 weeks before drawing the name of the winner on the 7th of August!

22 hour mark - final leg!!!

The blanket is now big enough to keep my legs warm! It's also comfy enough for a cat to nap against!

The challenge is now split across today and tomorrow with 12 hours completed today and hopefully 12 hours completed tomorrow. Initially the plan was to complete the project in 24 consecutive hours. It became apparent quite early on that this was an unrealistic goal for myself. Calon is currently counting his money to donate in hopes of potentially keeping the blanket for himself

When I initially took on this challenge I expected to find the 24 hours easy. I was not prepared for the hand and shoulder pain paired with extreme tiredness. Due to this I will be taking a two hour break and then commencing for a few hours this afternoon, late into the evening

Turns out I fell asleep at 4am with the crochet still sprawled across the bed. The 5 hours lost will be added onto the challenge.

Progress is a lot slower than I had anticipated. I didn't quite realize how much my shoulder would ache and how tired it be.

Friday 24th Jul
I am ready to begin my 24 hour challenge in 30 minutes! I will be updating every two hours with progress pictures! There is still plenty of time to donate to an important cause.

Challenge Update

Friday 24th Jul
The challenge was due to be started at midnight last night but due to chance in circumstance the challenge will be commencing today (time undecided yet).

I will still be crocheting for 24 continuous hours, with progress updates every 2 hours.

I will be entering the names of the donaters onto a wheel on the 7th of August to decide who wins the blanket. This is so that I have plenty of time to sew the loose ends (my least favourite part of crocheting) and using up all of the wool I purchased for this project.

Star blanket

Wednesday 8th Jul
I've been getting in my practice for the 24 hour challenge where I will be crocheting a star blanket from scratch. The blanket I am currently working on was started last month. The first star blanket I made took me 4 months of solid work. My plan is to practice my technique to shave time off each row to ensure that the blanket is a decent size in the 24 hours. Any donations made gives you the chance to win the final project.

Here is an image of my first ever complete star blanket. Crocheting has been a major outlet for me this past year whilst I've been in some of the darkest spaces I've ever been. For me, I enjoy the calm and quietness that crochet brings within, and having a completed project to add to the collection is always a bonus. I've decided to take on this challenge as I have struggled with my mental health for many years. Turning to charity mental health organisations has helped me greatly overtime, whether it be for tips and advice or just having a general chat. These services are vital for supporting anybody struggling with mental health which is why this fundraiser is so important to me.
