*Walkies for Wellbeing - Why I'm Lacing Up My Trainers*
Friday 18th Sep
If you know me, you know I love a good walk. Fresh air, a good podcast or a chat, and ideally a four-legged friend by my side. So when I saw Walkies for Wellbeing, I knew I had to sign up.
But I'm not just doing it because I like walking.
I'm doing it because I suffer with my mental health from time to time.
Some days I'm absolutely fine. Other days, getting out of bed feels like a marathon in itself. My head gets noisy, I overthink everything, and I can feel myself withdrawing. It's not something I've always been open about, but I've learned that talking about it - and walking through it - really does help.
For me, walking is medicine. It's not a cure, but it's a reset button. When I get outside and move, even for just 20 minutes, the fog starts to lift. My breathing slows down. The worries that felt huge in my bedroom feel a bit smaller when I'm out in the open air. And if I have a dog with me, even better - they don't judge, they don't ask questions, they just keep you moving forward.
That's why Walkies for Wellbeing means so much to me. It's about showing that looking after your physical health and your mental health are the same thing. It's about community. It's about reminding anyone else who has those tough days that they are not alone.
So I'm walking for me. And I'm walking for anyone who has ever felt anxious, low, overwhelmed, or just not quite themselves.
If you can, I'd love you to support me - whether that's by joining me for a walk, sharing this post, or donating if you're able. Every step and every euro helps raise awareness that it's okay not to be okay, and that a little walk can make a big difference.
Thank you for reading, and thank you for walking with me.
If you're struggling today, please talk to someone.
